Does anyone know of a repair tool for corrupt PST files In MS Outllook ? i am unable to open my email due to a corrupt file. the settings outlook gives me to run the repair tool do not correspond witht he folders.

My suggestion does nothing to cure your problem however has to do with backing up your .pst fiie so you always have a current backup file to use. Go to microsoft.com and download pfbackup.exe. It is free and configurable. Make a backup of your .pst file and when this incident happens you have a backup file to revert to. Good luck.

Thanks, But youre right it does nothing to solve my problem. Now what happens is it wont even open after running the MS tool. All i get is a dos screen with nothing running in it. It looks like outlook has gone missing or at leat an.exe file to make it run.
Any ideas ?

If you go to Add/Remove programs and try to uninstall Office you should be presented with the option of Repair or Uninstall. If you do not want to do that then put your CD in the drive, do a Custom install and install Outlook over itself. Personally I would try the Repair first and see if that may solve your problem. No guarantees of course.

Tried that and it told me it was succuesful. I tried to open outlook and got the message:
"Unable to display selected folderor item.Errors have been detected in the file c:\Documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst. Quit all mail enabled applications and use inbox repair tool."

So office repair has got rid of the Dos screen that i had but has put me back to square 1 by wanting me to run the repair tool.
I can find no file with the extension .PST (including hidden files but i do have the scanpst.exe file.

"I can find no file with the extension .PST"
If you follow the link you quoted above the .pst file is at the end of it.
c:\Documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst. You will find a file called Outlook in the folder. It is an Office Data File and is in fact your Outlook.pst file.

corrupt PST

Found it by using Windows exporer. I am going to back up outlook remove it do a clean XP install and reload outlook. It is now to unstable.

Cheers
:good:

You should not have to remove XP to achieve a stable Outlook. Backup your .pst file. Insert your CD and remove Outlook. After a successful removal reinstall Outloo and put your .pst file back in place. Most times that solves the problem.
