Corrupt registry

i recently just got back from visting my dad for a month and a half. when i boot up my computer i got a corrupt registry screen for a split second then it restart. i knew what it was because a blue screen flashed after 2 of the loading bars went by. i had this problem before and i think the only way to fix it is to reformat.


my question is that when i get my new computer soon. can i boot from a new HDD and hook this one up as a slave and copy all the files off it and then reformat it. i have tons of music and Photoshop files on there that i really need.

Yes, you can copy all of the data files.

The blue screen could mean somertthing else besides corrupt registery, but either way you can just go ahread and copy all o fyour files over like you and ^ said.

so i just hook it up on a spare IDE cable and set to slave.

New machines always have IDE, just a matter of 2x 4x or 6x support.

Can you link us a picture? Just becuase the picture isn;t showing the cable, doesn't mean the connector isn't there.

Yea, because all CD drives except a select few are IDE.

You only have support for 2 IDE devices, so either two CD-ROM, one CD-ROM/HD, or one CD-ROM/Card Reader.

Then this can slave off the DVD burner, barring your Hard Drives are SATA.

Copy and paste this in your run box sfc /scannow it will scan your HD for any missing or Corrupt windows files...you may need to insert your windows cd.
