Corrupted Volume

Hi,

I have a Hitachi 80GB hard disk used as an external disk for backing up info. One time, the electric current was not stable and the external case was damaged. I took out the hard disk and plugged it in my desk top computer case to use it as an additional disk.

When I go to my computer, I can see the volume as a local disk. when i cloick on explore, i get the disk is not formatted. I tried to format it, it said format could not be accomplished.

When the computer boots, it shows the disk as disk #2.

I tried administrative tools \ computer management \ disk management and i can see the "damaged" hard disk shown as 79GB capacity and healthy but nothing under file system.

I tried chkdsk under command promt of win xp. it said disk is raw.

When i tried to put under the command promt the drive path "d:\" , i got a message saying the volume does not contain a recognised file system. make sure all file system drivers are loaded and volume is not corrupted.

I just wanna know if there is any hope of making this drive usable again or better to just dump it.

thanks,

In administrative tools \ computer management \ disk management try deleting the partition it thinks is there and recreating it. I don't know if it will work or not, you could also try a 0 fill tool like this
