Corsair vs. OCZ

Hello agian guys. I have another question about Ram. In my attempts to shave off as much money as possible but retain quality I've been ping-ponging between different companys for Ram. My quest is, who is the winner in quality when comparing OCZ and Corsair.

OCZ tend to have lower prices, but paying more for the Corsair makes me think that they have better quality or is their additional cost come from advertising? I have two 1g dual channel sticks I am looking at from the different companys. I am a new when it comes to Cas Latency but my guess is that the higher the better and for Timing lower is better. I have read the Ram 101 and it still isn't very clear to me, I'm a very hands on person I guess ^^ Here are my choices thus far.

OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Timing is crusial here because I have to make this choice by tommorw because both of their mail-in-rebates expire tommrow. Does anyone have suggestions for even better Ram for the price? Thanks alot!

I've been building my own PC's for 15yrs. All I know is that I never heard of OCZ until recently. Unless somebody has a legit review I can see that says OCZ is better or just as good, I am sticking with Corsair. Whenever I can afford it I buy Corsair. That way I know I'm getting the best. I paid $333.00 for what you see in my sig. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145038
I see its gone up a bit since 08\30\06 when I bought it.

The OCZ generally comes running more volts for the same speed and timing. This indicates to me that they are not as high quality. Corsair seems to run better speed/timing with less volts, which means it runs cooler and also that as you loosen the timings and up the volts you can hit way higher timings. That said, the OCZ ram still seems to do pretty good.

My big decision woudl be between using GSkill GBHZ ram and Corsair XMS2.

OCZ has often been labeled the "Premium" brand of memory while Corsair has won a gamer's favorite title. The usual is to find OCZ producrs priced higher then Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, Mushkin, and a few other better brands. One factor that seems to play into which memory works better has often to do with the make and model board that it will go on.

Some makes just seem to run far better with better with certain brands then others. Usually the board manufacturer will list the brands of memory tested on their boards when you are looking for a recommended brand. Asus boards for some reason are a typical example when OCZ sees problems while the others named here go on without problems.

I run OCZ, and can now say that I will run it for as long as I can, its incredible overclocking ram if you need it for, easily capable of running tight timings, and can normally be found cheaper then XMS. OCZ tends to be more highly favored for OC'ers I mean I know I guy who runs his OCZ plat rev 2 pc3200 at 300MHz :p.

I have heard that OCZ is good for overclocking but has compatability issues as far as voltages are concerned, grante dthey can be adjusted but not always easily if new to it. I would go with corsair for reliability and compatability. I have rarely ever heard bad reviews from those who use it.

Corsair

I have some Corsair XMS and it ROCKS. OC's and is stable. It's all really a crapshoot though. I'd say Corsair but then again for DDR2 I went with GSKILL who is also fairly new. It also works like a champ for me while some people will always knock something that may work for you. :D
