corsair VX550W faulty?

I recently upgraded the psu in my computer to a corsair VX550W after reading many good reviews about it. This was to replace my old stock power supply which had come to the end of its life.

However, after connecting it up and using the computer for about 15 minutes the whole system restarts. It isnt able to fully restart and just keeps attempting to turn on without even reaching the bios screen. If the computer is left completely unplugged for a few minutes it is possible to use it for another quarter of an hour or so.

Since the problem only started when I installed the power supply do you think it could be faulty. I have reinstalled windows and have had the motherboard replaced but the problem still exists.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

The first thing to do before reinstalling Windows or doing anything else would have been to even borrow a known working supply to see find the new supply as the cause or to see that ruled out. By using a substitute and seeing the system run normal you would simply return a bad supply to the vendor for an exchange, substitute, or refund.

Sometimes supplies will see loose contacts inside one of the power connectors either the main 20+4pin or the 12v cpu feed. Since you already swapped boards out it's most likely an internal problem with the supply itself. The thing to do now is swap the current supply with another to see if the problem is corrected.

How did your original PSU fail, and are you sure it didn't damage components when it did? Do you get a BSOD? If so let us know what it is. Try removing all non-essential hardware (e.g. min ram, 1 drive etc).
