Corsair XMS2 Overclocking

Is this Ok? Is it safe?

Kof, I didn't notice any difference in my Super PI score...

Thanks :)

I don't have 3D Mark, so I can't tell, Also, It didn't make a difference to my Super PI score, but I'll leave it anyway :)

If you want to be able to record the differences, either download PCMark (similar to 3DMark, but benches the whole system), or an even better tool would be Sandra Lite 2007, which has specific memory bandwidth tests.

I don't get what the timings really do, if you can change them, but you wont notice a difference unless you're benchmarking, whats the point?

Core 2's hide high latencies fairly well and on top of that reducing them by 1 doesn't do a whole lot anyway, going from 6-6-6 to 4-4-4 should be a noticable difference but still small.

The timings are how many clock cycles the controller has to wait for the memory to do stuff. There is a delay for each operation, CAS and CMD timings are applied to every RAM access which is why they make the biggest difference and many people just kind of forget about the other timings.

To get the best performing RAM thats possible :)

You wont notice a difference anyways going from DDR2-667 to DDR2-800 anyways.

Ah right, so it's the option to tweak it a little, but it doesn't really make much of a difference unless you're going from either end of a scale.

So lower timings mean faster RAM, but then there's the clock speed to contribute too. Makes sense. Thanks guys! :)

So OC'ing my RAM would be pretty pointells if I'm not going to notice a difference.

Overclocking the RAM alone is pretty pointless, unless you just want to see how high/fast you can go for bragging rights and benchmarks.
