Corsair xsm 3cl?

Well I just bought some new ram and N.E. says this ram has a cl of 2. I just looked on cupid and it said that it was running at a cl of 3. Why would that be? My old ram ran at 2.5 and that was pretty cheap ram.

Also if it is true that dual 512 runs faster than dual gigs in dual channel would it be better for me to run my 512 sticks in dual channel and then put the two gig sticks in the other two slots and have 3 gigs? Or would it be better to just run the two gig sticks in dual?

newram= 3,3,3,8
oldram= 2.5,3,3,8
??

Thanks.

Although they shold be set to the proper settings by SPD, you may have to go into BIOS and set them manually :)

I forgot to check back and say that it was fixxed. I do have another question though. Right now I am only using the two gig sticks on a timing of 2,3,3,6. My two 512 (2.5,3,3,8) sticks are not in use, would I see better performance if I put thoes in and had 3 gigs of ram? Or maybe since dual 512's is faster than dual gig sticks, should I put the two 512's in dual channel and put the other 2 gig sticks in the empty slots? But if the two gig sticks have a cl of 2 and the two 512 sticks have a cl of 2.5, it would be better to just keep the two gig sticks right?

So pretty much I'm asking:

-Keep the two gig sticks in dual channel and not use the two 512 sticks. (so only 2 gigs of ram)(2 gig sticks)
-Keep the two gig sticks in dual channel and use the two 512 sticks in the empty slots.( 3 gigs of ram)(two gigs sticks in dual channel)
-Put the two 512 sticks in dual channel and put the two gig sticks in the empty slots.(Two 512 sticks in dual channel)(Two gig sticks not in dual channel)(3 gigs of ram)

Thanks for the help, Bob. (and yes my mobo supports up to four gigs)

The 2 gig sticks should be plenty unless you are running a server.

Although they shold be set to the proper settings by SPD
The SPD settings for my RAM is 3-4-4-8 IIRC and the advertised settings are 2-3-3-6. The SPD table timings are determined by JEDEC are they not?

Depends on the memory (and so it seems the motherboard) ... according to Corsair (funny ... they apart of JEDEC) ... their [XMS] lineup has the SPD "set to the fastest possible timings" (not direct quote but something like that) .... which should mean the advertised timings ... but i think there may be some smallprint (i.e., maybe its the advertised only if they on a P4C800-E?)
