Could be a dumb question...

Okay, I was thinking...

I'm about done burning all of my CDs onto one dedicated hard drive. It's 200 gig and it's well over half full. (I know, I've got too many CDs). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has tried making an MP3 player with a standard 3.5 inch hard drive. I know it would be very big compared to a standard Ipod, but portability isn't the issue. It's having my whole music collection at my fingertips. I already have the drive in a removable chassis. How cool would that be for long road trips?

Here's one that uses a standard 2.5" notebook hard drive.

the thing is people buy it for portability i sure would not want to carry a pc hardrive around. i mean i drop on the floor and it'll probably crash.

Hehe, well, I don't know if this would work, but some MP3 players just use 2.5" drives(like the creative labs ones) I'm pretty sure there are converters so you could connect 3.5" drives up to 2.5 connections, you just might need to add additional power to turn the larger harddrive. But with a little rigging, it could probably be done ;)

Something that should work but would get very expensive, get an external USB drive enclosure then use a PDA ;) Unfortunetly, most PDA's don't have USB, and the cards(last I checked) went for around $140.

There are no dumb questions, just dumb people asking questions :) na, Just joking with you. Would be cool though, to keep in your car or something.
