Could Having Onboard Sound Card Cause My Games to Crash?

Well, thread title says it all. Is this possible?

Absolutely not...Why would it??

I have an ASUS A7N8X-X with 6 channel onboard sound, and I play games ALOT (UT2004 mostly).

No reason why it should crash at all... The only enhancement you get from a soundcard is better quality sound, and more options to plug stuff into it :P

:)

Well, I've had games crash on me, such as WarCraft III, and one on their solutions was to check your soundcard if it was onboard and get latest drivers and such. I was also just reading another thread in Desktop Computers section and the second post says that the onboard sound might be his problem. I have UT2004, but I got BSD-like things and my comp restarts after they display. Its really weird.

I highly doubt this is caused from the onboard sound card... As long as the drivers are up-to-date then you should be spic-span.

This problem could be related perhaps to RAM, Graphics Card, PSU, but I doubt that it is caused by your sound card ;)

If your machine is randomly crashing, you should update ALL your drivers !! and I mean EVERYTHING (video card, sound card, mouse, Win updates, program updates ....... )

Doom 3 crashed a lot on my machine, then I updated everything and I've had no problems since :)
