OMG! I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate epson, first cx series i got form epson I got for 300+ USD including black+3color cartridge and 2 yr warrenty, after about a year + couple of days it broken down, basically paid for a +2 yr extention warrenty for those couple of days and when I received my second damn thing piece of whatever it broke within 6 months! I mean COME ON! I used like the half filled ink cartridge that came with the printer and 10% of the ones i bought seprately... I didnt even use the damn thing a lot.

I went for about a year or two before I finally decided to get another printer, since this time I needed a fax as well I went for another all-in-one but this time one with fax, the cx5800f. Let me tell you the bull crap epson pulled on me, it had like a 2 month return policy and it just happened my printer lasted only 3 months, SIGH* I got an extended warrenty this time as well but apprently you had to register the damn thing, When did you have to start registering for warrenties? I figure if i'm paying a 40 dollar warrenty extention on a 130 dollar printer then they might as well register it for me when I purchased the damn thing or atleast put up a warning that the warrenty needed to be registered! sigh*

So here I am kicking myself and the printer back and forth just fed up with epson, and I was wondering could someone suggest a good (something that'll last) printer thats budget friendly and all in one including fax?

What is your definition of "budget friendly?" HP makes the best laserjets ever, but for color and fax you'll have to go up to $800 with a laserjet. Their inkjets are good too, check out the PSC series.

I believe he's looking for ink, not laser... :)

As for extended warranties, it is strongly recommended to register them because if you lose the receipt, then they have you in the system some other way. The only other option would be to have people wait in the store while they fill out their address and various other information. Most retail chains should be able to look up past receipt purchases, not necessarily in store though. If they don't have it in store, call their corporate offices and they can look it up for usually up to at least a year...

As for recommendations on a printer, HP makes pretty solid printers with one flaw. If you don't spend the money on the printer, and you print more than 10 pages a week, you'll spend a lot more money on the ink. Bite the bullet and spend a little more money on the machine, and you'll be happy you did later on for the cartridges :)... (Some suggestions would be the C4180 or C5180)

Here's my take on this...

For CD printing, I'd suggest Canon specifically i950 (this is what i use) For pictures, a friend of mine swears that Epson is the only choice for printing this type of document. I don't really print much pictures, so there

But for B/W, I use HP970CXi--actually any HP printer would do well for B/W printing. That's why I HP printer cartridges for my paperworks. I get my compatibles online. My supplier offers a variety of HP ink cartridges, epson cartridges, pitney bowes fax toners, tektronix 7300 printer ink, cartridge discount laser minolta toner. So with all the printers in our house, obtaining such assortment of cartridges under one roof is heaven sent.
