Could use an opinion

This is my first time ever attempting to try and build a computer and I'm pretty nervous about it. And before I buy the parts i was looking for some opinions from people who probably know more about computers and such than I do before I go blowing a considerable amount of money(considerable to me) on parts that are incompatible or not worth it.

And I'm also unsure whether I should use Vista as I've heard different things about it.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated

Your motherboard you've picked is compatible with all your parts, but I don't know if that motherboard series made by Foxconn is good quality. Looks like they just released it.

I would go with another power supply. A 650 Watt power supply is more than you will need. This 500 watt power supply should be good enough:

Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply - $60

You may also want to look at this RAM. I've been using it for over a month with no issues.

SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 PC2-6400 - $41

I would also go with Windows XP operating system over Windows Vista. In my opinion Windows XP is better (there are many different opinions on here about this subject).

I have read some good things and some bad things about Foxconn motherboards. I would recommend this Gigabyte board, my friend has it and loves it, super stable and overclocks very well. It also has 8 USb ports. It supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM. Just an Idea for ya:D This board will be the next one I buy, going to upgrade in a few months.

The only down side is the RAM is expensive, $145

I would get a PSU with modular cables. I like only adding just the cables I need and not having a bunch of crap tied up out of the way at the top of my case. Here is an idea for you, another friend has this and its been great to him for about a year.

Mushkin 580W ATX12V

Good luck with your build and let us know how it went!:D

You could buy Double Data Rate 2 RAM for the GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-DS3R motherboard and upgrade to DDR3 RAM later when the price goes down.

One note about the GA-EP45C-DS3R motherboard is you cannot install DDR3 and DDR2 random access memory at the same time. You need to pick one or the other. The motherboard can use up to 8 gigabytes of DDR3 or 16 gigabytes of DDR2 memory.

How can you guys be giving him suggestions when he still hasn't told us what it is going to be used for?

Who cares what it will be used for, look at all the specs, I just gave him some suggestions to go along with all the other things he will buy! ;)

the foxconn p45a** series boards are fine. they are stable and the bios is revolved around overclocking. the only bad thing i would say about it is its not aesthetically pleasing, being bright blue and having skanky ally heatsinks, also the pcb is a touch on the flimsy side.

but if you dont care what it looks like and you wont be messing with the board all the time then there will be no problem for you.

i'd back a reccomendation on getting a foxconn board :)

p.s i have the e8400 chip, its awsome :)
