Couldnt load movie file?

I am trying to play a computer game and when I try to start it up the screen goes black and a little error comes up saying "ERROR: Couldn't load the movie file (Publish.avi)
I've been told to download a DivX player, but I did, and still no luck... I'm on a Windows 2001/2002 somewhere around there...
Please speak DUMB because I'm not good at computers...

alrighty, it would help if we knew a little bit more, like your OS and what you're trying to run. You probably need to download codecs for whatever file is trying to play, but more info would definitely help
