Counter-Strike Source: Beta?

I went into my steam account a few days ago and saw that there was a Beta version of CSS in the "my games" list. I checked steam news and they mentioned that they provided updates for the beta, and a brief description of the changes. But they never actually said what the beta is, unless I missed something.

Does anyone else have CSS: Beta in their my games list? And do you know what exactly it is?

BTW, it's only taking up 26MB right now...

Eventually it will be spread throughout the whole of CSS, i heard about that weapons thing about a week ago from a friend and thought it was agood idea, glad to see it being implemented. Maybe it might be a bit more fair now....

i read that bit-tech article on how CSS is declining rapidly in their view, and i have to say some of the points rasied in that are very true, one about this economy and buying guns and changing prices, that does make it hard to play tactics, say your in a clan and your the only sniper they have, your a real good sniper and are key to winning the match, but the economy is bad for you, the cost of sniper rifles goes up to much and you cant afford it anyomre, then you have to downgrade and become a frnont man or a camper or something and maybe lose the amtch because its not really your area.... thats a good point, im starting not to like the idea of this actually.... i prefer it when you know the prices and you can plan in your head that you can buy A, B and C because you can see you have X money, thats gonna change, and will increase buy times on matches, it could annoy a lot of people.

Me, i dont play online enough for it to matter, bots on hard dificulty is good enough for me

dragon said it perfectly, and those are the main reasons why I and most of the CS:S community wouldn't want it to be implemented, it would effect competitive gaming alot.

From what i've seen, the prices of certain weapons right now are at most only a few hundred dollars more, which doesn't seem like anything major. Unless I just dont understand this whole thing, lol

Just another reason why 1.6 is so much better than Source.

Nah, theres nothing better about 1.6, and I mean nothing. Source is so much better, especially with the new physics engine.

Okay, with the exception that it can run on crappy hardware :)

omg they are making the AWPs cheaper?! AWP pansies are going to be so happy....
its all relative, they arent just going to make somethign cheaper, if it gets bought a lot then the price will go up to stop everyone buying it at the same time. If no one buys it at all the price will go down to entice people to buy it.

And omega, IMO 1.6 is better, ive only played source a couple of times and didnt really like it. The physics engine you mention, it makes all the movements boggy and slow, which i dont like. Its also ALOT harder to get headshots on opponents in source which obviously nobody likes.

Maybe its just personal opinion, but i prefer 1.6, that coupled with the fact that source runs fairly crappy on my lowly fx5200

I was being a little sarcastic there, I know 1.6 has its benifits.

But could you explain what I said in this post to me?

Nope... its not your grafic's card.. its true.. :)
That btw is the reason why i like source better... at least i hit something occasionally then. In 1.6, everything moves like it has no mass,.. so it changes directions instantly, makes it impossible for me to hit much. (without spray and pray ). in source i do hit,.. well... still its crap, but at least i hit more than in 1.6.. hence,,i kile it better:D

Ok, well, the price change of an item depends on how much money is spent (worldwide) ion that item in the last week. After that week if say 5% of all counterstrike money was spent on the M4A1 then then M4's price will go up by 5%. Obviously this is a week by week basis, i think it was released on the 11th Oct and seeing as its only the 17th today, it hasnt been a full week, so prices cant really be judged yet.

One thing to note is that pistols and dual firearms like the dual-elites are exempt from mthe main economy (they have their own) this is becuase if the price of pistols went up a lot, then at the start of a match you might not have enough money to een buy a pistool, whihc would make the game useless as your running around with a knife when the good duys have the bullpup pointed at your head.

Im not entireley sure about things like grenades but i believe they are in the same main global market, there are two pistols and all other items. The pistols one doesnt change hardly at all, i think it does change still, but not enoughn to affect match starts and auto weapon giving at the start of a match.

i hope that helps, as i say i dont play CSS, im a 1.6 guy, so i havent had any real hands on with this system yet. You probably know more than me
