Couple OC ?'s

hey guys,

I just got a new setup:

Athlon 64 3000+ (venice)
ECS RS 400 M
1G Corsair Value Select Dual Channel

I have big plans for custom water/peltier cooling in the future, but for now i just have 2 fans.

I would like to overclock it slightly til i get my setup. I have the stock HS/fan.

If any of you have a similar setup, and would like to share some info it's appreciated.

I also would like to know a good windows bassed temp/fan sensor program.

Ouch.

I am not so sure about the motherboard that you got. It's ECS and generally speaking, the do not make the best boards for overclocking at all (Especially with the chipset that you have). I overclocked to 2.6Ghz (289 x 9) on stock cooling. All good I must say, although I am getting a better cooler as well. I am sure that with the right cooling and essentially a great OC board, you could easily get 2.7+ ;).

!!! Personally I think that before investing into any good cooling, you should get a better motherboard !!!

My suggestions would be these:

Abit AN8 Fatal1ty - nForce4 Ultra
Abit AN8 Fatal1ty SLI - nForce4 SLI
DFI LanParty UT NF4-D - nForce4
DFI LanParty UT NF4Ultra-D - nForce4 Ultra
Abit AN8 Ultra - nForce4 Ultra
MicroStar K8N SLI Platinum - nForce4 SLI

the chipset is good, manufacturer is ok. Best to stick to household names like abit, msi, asus, dfi etc however - reviews on this mobo by biostar are ok

i know a couple people who are happy with the biostar for Socket A's if that means anything.

I belive what i will do is get the biostar board, and buy a refurb 6600GT sound good? or should i avoid biostar?

You do want overclocking. In that case, the best thing to do would be something comparable to DFI Lanparty series. It is not worth risking the overlockability on rather unexplored brands. DFIs are expensive but guaranteed to OC well. Selected ASUS and ABIT boards are also excellent overclocking candidates.
