CPU and GPU getting pretty hot

Hi all,

I recently put together my computer and my CPU has been maxing out at 48C and I all I've been doing is surfing the internet and typing in Word. I know when I was installing the CPU heatsink, I put it on a few times and took it off trying to get the damn thing on. Maybe the thermal paste isn't right? I am running a Phenom X4 955 BE at stock.

For my GPU, I haven't put any load on it and it's maxing out at 50C. It's an MSI 5750.

Are these temps normal?
 
what % usage are they at? if close to 100%, then those temps are fine.
for the cpu, i am assuming from your post you are using the stock heatsink? are you overclocking at all? what % is the cpu at when it hits 48?
what speed is the fan at for the gpu? if it is slow, like 35% or so, then you'll just need to turn it up.
 
CPU is running around 50% load at most I'd say. I was playing some WoW and it hit 52C. GPU hit 60C and now it's at 47C with the fan at 59%
Also, everything is stock and no OC
 
My i5-750 idles with 2 cores at 48-47, with the other two at 42-41, mine run hot too... As a matter of interest, how do you increase GPU fan speed? Mine is always at 35% and idles roughly 45-47C.
 
the gpu should be fine i'd say. they can generally run pretty hot before you need to worry about them. if the temps gte to be close to 75 or 80, then i'd say you should increase the fan speed. if you do, just go to ccc-overdrive-(unlock it if you haven't)-increase the fan speed.
for the cpu, it is kind of your call. you can either get an aftermarket cooler or stick with the one you have. i would say as long as you don't run it at 100% for an hour you should be fine with the stock cooler. but if you were to ever oc, you'd need an aftermarket cooler.
