cpu and heatsink

I just pulled the plug on the fan/heatsink for the cpu since it is making alot of noises. I still left the fan/heatsink in there, hoping it can be used as a heatsink instead. Is this a good idea?

My guess would be for no here. Your cpu has a fan on the heatsink for a reason. Monitor the temps very close but as long as the fan is working i would not reccomend running for extended periods of time without it plugged in and running

No that wasn not a very good idea i would plug your fan back in right away and what cpu do you have right now.

No. Without the fan, your CPU will reach throttleback temperatures quickly. If your fan is defective, or too loud, replace it.

Get the Thermaltake mini-typhoon cooler man, its 100% with 6 heatpipes and a really quite fan and it lowered my temps almost 10c all around!

Only drawback is its about $70.
