Also i would like to add that this is all encased in a Thermaltake Xaser VI Pro gaming case.

I seem to have problems with my PC overheating at times and for a while i had problems with it crashing although that may have been because of a program i was running at the time.

Either way i have been looking to replace the stock CPU Heatsink and Fan, i have been looking around and I am having a hard time balancing price with functionality.

So essentially what I am asking is what should I look for in a better cooling system for my Processor. Is it cost effective to go with one of these water cooling systems like the H70[http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181013] Or should i look at a more 'traditional' cooling option such as a normal heatsink/fan combination?

More information:
Cooling system must fit a LGA 1366 Socket
Price must be under $150
Lower price is better, but i don't want to sacrifice too much performance
CPU is currently averaging around 55 Degrees Celsius
I would like to get it under 40 degrees, 30 if possible.

My second question:
My GPU on my Video Card seems to be running a little hot, could it be because of the processor heat? If not how could i go about keeping it coolr?

If you are not overclocking, you do not need anything special for cooling. The first thing that I would do is clean out your heahsink and make sure that the thermal paste is applied correctly.

Is the 55c under full load or at rest. That will give us a better measure of how your case is dealing with the heat. On that same note, how do you have your fans configured in your case?

Lastly, what gpu are you running?
 
55C is at minimal use
at rest they are usually around 50C

I cleaned it up quite a bit after i started having some problems, but i wasnt running speedfan at the time, so i dont know how much it really helped. I have not checked the thermal paste as of yet.

I have thought about overclocking but I figured I would take care of this end first, lol

Gpu is runnign at 60c as of right now, ugh
 
hey dood,

How many fans do you have in this machine, is it hot in your house? I have a radeon hd 5970 and an AMD phemon ii x6 running at 26c CPU 30c GPU on 5+ fans. I probably dont need that many but fans are cheap and im paranoid about this beast exploding XD.

maybe you should think about a new airflow design. Ive got two main fans blowing in from the bottom front, one in through the side, one out the back, one out the top, two small fans blowing in through the top front. If anything try to add at least one more fan to the front blowing in and see how that works. Is the fan thats blowing down on top of the case? i looked your case up and saw two different models. neither had a fan on top though. Remember, heat rises so blowing it down is probly not the best idea that is... if this is whats happening..
 
I will take a good look when i open my case again tomorrow.

If i was to overclock, what should i look for hardware/cooling wise before I do? and how much potential performace gain can i expect from my processor? Is it worth the money for a better cooling system based on performance gain?
 
well, im not much for overclocking because it makes me nervous, but i would think that if you where able to solve your heat problem by adding a few fans, overclocking to 3.0 might be possible. Here is somone else overclocking that processor also, says 3ghz shouldnt make it sweat.
 
Ok so now my computer is running at 20c idle and I havent seen it get over 40c after changing my CPU cooler and adding a couple of case fans.

But now for some reason, everytime I play a fullscreen game with Vertical Sync[Such as World of Warcraft, or Starcraft II] the screen goes black and eitehr I have to restart, or the game eventually crashes to desktop.

Disabling Vertical Sync causes the game to run at a really low FPS and is really unplayable.

Also Youtube video stutters, just adding that. Audio is fine.

This all happened after I made my hardware changes, I am hoping this can be fixed without replacing my video card.

Edit: Chaged a BIOS setting that got reset somehow, that was limiting my GFX card i am good now, now to think about overclocking
