cpu any good ?

Yes still a very good cpu,Even with its age it still handles everything you throw at it.

However at stock clocks its a bit slow,id overclock it if you can to at least 3.2Ghz,But you have a Dell,You probably cannot overclock it.

I had my Q6600 at 3.5Ghz,could have gone alot more but it was not needed.

Why not grab a decent used LGA 775 board so you can overclock? you can get a P45 board for around £30-35 if you look in the right places.

^^ I think that is the best cheapest short term system improvement. When you start doing too much it gets so close to just build new and get extreme improvement.

I think your system still has legs. Biggest problem With DeLL is DeLL MoBo and BIOS.

I think if you change your mobo, and overclock you could get another year out of that Q6600 before needing to upgrade,Its a very capable Quad ;)

But yeah going from the Q6600s stock 2.6Ghz to 3.5Ghz is quite a boost.

You may also need to invest in a better Cpu cooler though if you plan to overclock to those sorts of speeds,The stock cooler will not cut it.

Of course il help you the best i can if you do decide to overclock,No guarantee that it will reach the same as mine though, all Cpus are diffrent + it depends on the mobo & ram you got but i should think it would.

Shame because i sold an Asus P45 motherboard a few months back,If id have still had it u could have had that. :o

wooow man thanks so much mate aint you got any other motherboard ill give you my dell one :) yh what i will do is sell my motherboard and colling fam and then by those part and overclock it if you got a colling fam or motherboard you would be saving my life :) thanks alot so your info very helpful

I aint got any more LGA 775 boards now,I had a clearout about two months ago.

You can pick up a gigabyte P41 chipset on ebuyer for about £38 which should have some OCing options.

Try and look for a P45 chipset if you can, depends on your budget.

Dont forget though,If you change your Mobo you might have to ring Microsoft to activate your copy of windows again...just tell them your mobo in the Dell had died and you had to get a new mobo.:P

ok but this is the story if i am going to upgrade i want to use good top parts dont want crappy cheap once  so whats a decent motherboard better then my current dell one ? i think ill get around 70-80 for mine on ebay can you show me some links off ebay please im from uk as i aint got a clue on motherboard what good or not lol

I got an Asus P5QLD PRO for £70 from Novatech.

But i don't think they are selling them now.

You could get an Asus P5P41D from here although you would have to make sure it is compatible with all your components.

Look into getting a P45 chipset motherboard, either,Asus,Gigabyte,MSI brands are good makes.

Il tell you now you will not get £70-80 for your dell mobo,More like £20-30 if that...problem with pc components they get outdated so quickly and loose their value, and plus yours been a locked Dell it does not really have much going for it. :P

To be honest though i would not spend too much money on a new LGA775 board, because its not worth it...like i said look into picking up a used P45 mobo from Ebay or something, you should be able to get one for about £35-45...then you should be able to overclock that Q6600 which will be the best & cheapest short term system improvement until you decide the time comes where you REALLY need an whole upgrade. :)

to be honest if i was to completely to a hold read build what would i need to upgrade ? i always thought the spec off my pc is good

If your happy with what you have got,Then i dont see any point in upgrading yet...i was just saying that if you do want a boost then an Overclock should hold you over for a bit until you REALLY feel you need a better system.

Atm your graphics card is on the weak side,If that were my system it would be the first to get upgraded....then probably the mobo.

Aastii is selling his GTX 260 which is quite a bit faster than a 9800GT.

But im not quite sure what your wanting exactly as its getting a bit confusing now. :P

ok but i asked if he wants to swap but he said no i think gtx 260 is abit week if im going to upgrade i want to go ati or better i might sell this rig and start a full built. what you think but iknow for a fact this system will last another year maybe more.

you cant swap up cards??

why would someone want to swap a better card than yours?
the only way that would happen was if you threw in some money along side the 9800gt
