CPU benchmarks

I was looking at the Toms Hardwire site on CPU benchmarks. I notice that dual core X2's do much better over single in multitasking and overall computer apps. But when it can to games, it fell behind. I was compairing the 3800+x2 to the 3500+ athlon. The 3500+ did much better in games then the X2. Is that because most games arent designed to take full advantage of dual core???

Exactly, older games and a few new games arent multi-threaded, so it's like only having a single core.

so the 3800 X2 with only one core working has less performance that the 3500+ athlon?
Yes, the X2 3800+ is equivalent to an Athlon64 3200+ if your only using one core.

hmm...so are games going to at so time be able to run dual core. I want a fast processor to do multitaks but be a good game performer.

so i guess thats where the 4200+ and 4400+ come in

Games are going to become multi threaded quite soon. The X2 3800 is easily over clocked and that can increase single core performance.

yea got mine to 2.4ghz without an overvolt... in short without increasing heat very much.
single core is much more overclockable though... i mean there are times when dual prime95 fails for me... but then one of the prime95 instances just keeps going for over a day lol
check out tomshardware benches on quake 4 performance... thats a multithreaded game... dual cores do much better in it.

ya right now, x2 3800 can handle any games no problem, (even as a single core)
may be you should consider what video card you have,,,

yea, i think you meant even only utilizing one of its cores...
anyways, 2ghz amd with 512kb cache is more than enough to get good fps in almost any game. soon it won't matter as much because of the physx cards :D
