CPU bogged down

I'm running an AMD 2600+ Barton and I'm a serious gamer and try to run a few other programs like the internet, or sometimes I'll leave a game on and run an mp3 and the CPU usuage is usually pretty high.

I'm running a ThermalTake Volcano which I thought would help the CPU from over heating. I got 1gb ram. Someone told my that the stock power supply that came with my raidex case is crap, but I'm not sure that that is the problem.

Any advice?

CPU usage is almost always 100% when a full screen game is running even if its not in focus. Unless you have a hyper threaded p4 then usage is usualy 50%

Yeah...

Most likely it is the fact that running a game and other things at the same time is likely to be a heavy burden even for a processor like yours. I mean I have mine at an equivalent of the 2500+ and I have the same problem when doing that. However, if you see high CPU usage even without that, check for spyware, adware and other such stuff. I hope I helped you.

Well have a look at voltage stability. There are some cases where the Raidmax PSUs perform brilliantly but for the most part that's not the case :)

What then woudl be a fair PSU to get for my unit?

OCz, Thermaltake, Vantec, Antec, Enermax, PC Power & Cooling, Superflower, Fortron (not in any particular order)

What kind of voltage am I going to be looking for?

You're not looking for a voltage. Those are already predetermined, you're looking for voltage stability (i.e., does it provide the voltage it says it does)
