CPU Capability...

I have been wanting to buy more RAM for my PC, but it is a bit dated and runs DDR RAM. Now, I want 2 GBs of RAM but DDR is getting expensive these days and harder to come by. If I'm running on an AMD Sempron 3000+ CPU could I replace the motherboard with a new one that supports DDR2? This would be for the purpose of putting DDR2 RAM in my computer since it is so much cheaper. But I am unsure if I would have to replace my CPU as well.

If you move into something newer then the Socket A or 754 model board there you will also need a new cpu since that will be a totally different cpu socket type like AM2, and now AM2+ soon to see AM3. You may as well plan a total upgrade since DDR3 is already available.

If you decide on a new build first plan out a budget and the type of system you want and you'll see plenty of people ready to provide links on the various hardwares.

Yes, but overall it might just be cheaper to upgrade the whole combo itself (RAM, motherboard, CPU)
