CPU Cooler

Hello,

I have recently custom built a computer with:

1tb Samsung HardDrive
956mb nVidia Graphics Card
8GB Corsair Gold RAM (Buy one get one free :D)
Blu-Ray Drive
Normal Drive
650 Watt PSU
Intel Quad Core processor at 2.50GHz

Anyway the processor is getting far too hot, crashing the computer to protect it from getting damaged (This is after playing Arma II for about ten minutes lol..)

The stock cooler that comes with the processor is crap, and was basically wondering if anyone has any reccomendations on a decent cooler.

Price isn't much of a problem - although don't give me things that are stupidedly high (basically <50)

So ideas?

Cheers,

Dom

Also what case do you have?

The stock Intel coolers, while not high performance, should keep the CPU cool enough to not overheat itself.

I'd have to say there was an issue while installing the cooler.

What's the model, and what socket?
I'm guessing it isn't Overclocked, right?

Not overclocked and 775 :)

Yeh forgot to mention that :D Two of the pins on the stock cooler are also damaged so keeping the cooler attached is difficult (so it is detaches not enough air is getting to the CPU)
So basically a new cooler is needed - as good as possible would be nice :)

Forgot to mention my case is a CM Storm Scout Case - very big and spacious :)

The 775 stock cooler is pretty good for stock settings, I don't trust the ones that ship with the i5/i7s though. Those missing pins are a problem, you can get a fairly good heatpipe cooler for about $30 now.

I was reading on a review that the cooler-master/hyper-212-plus has an uneven base so I´m not sure about recommending that one now.

That OCZ will easily cool that cpu down. How´s your case fan set up , good airflow?

I have four fans bringing in air atm - but will also be buying another afn. JMy reason for this is airflow is not great - in my bedroom under the desk does make it a bit limiuted - but I can fit in one/two more case fans if needed (if so any reccomendations? :)

The noctuas are nice but pricey,

I´ve been filling mine up with Scythe gentle typhoons. Very quiet and push a lot of air.

Another cooler, bit bigger

How does the Scythe one attach?

Also anything off this that looks half decent?:

Just I have money off vouchers there atm haha. Doesn't HAVE to be from there, but they are normally quite good for me too :)

I´m not sure as I´ve only owned AMD, I´m sure one of the Intel members will help.
A bit more info on the dimensions and bracket support specs.

Thanks - hopefully some intel members will come and discuss too :)

Basically I do not want to use screws to screw in the fan as sometimes it involes taking motherboard out etc - and I cannot be bothered with that when I can use pins - and it won't make a differnece ( although if you keep taking pins out they break (like my current one!))

Check your case width because then you can match the height also look for some good thermal paste like

I can´t see any case fans there.

Link for case fans (sorry its on two different bits :D):

Thats fans - and by the way I have red lighting - so blue lights won't work haha

Thanks again - checking the links you gave now :)

All those fans are very average, It´s always better to remove the MB and work on a flat hard surface. You dont do it very often and you´ll appreciate it later with those low temps.

Only the top one on the links you posted seems to be useable :(

Although it does look very good :D

I think the other 3 coolers need you to take off the motherboard to play a back plate - which I think may involved unplugging certain parts?

Mind you do they require this as the coolers are so big - if that is the case one would not work as it is pegs?

----

Only had my custom pc for just over a month now - so yeh I have done it about four times (some parts were faulty!)

Since you say they are only average I will go by waht you say - as you know more than me. I have a anti static mat to work on - would I have to unplug all the parts to put in the cooler?

One fan at the front, one on top, one at the back.

Fairly good airflow - but thats why I am looking to buy 1/2 new fans for the site of my case - as thats where airflow is best - but no fans :D

EDIT: :D Just realised I already answered xD
