CPU cooler.

I OC'd my cpu tonight, I got it up to 2310Mhz from 2000Mhz before the temp got up to 40*c, which worried me because it normally idles around 29c (max).. at least lately.

So, now that I can know I can OC my system, I need a better cooling solution.

I'm already thinking about picking up a case that has a 250mm fan built into the side panel, which would throw quite a bit of air directly at the cpu/gpu, so would I need a new cpu cooler? ...or should I just pick up some AS5 and stick with my stock AMD Socket AM2 x2 cooling solution?

If I need a new cooler, I don't want a hundred reviews telling me to pick up a zalman.. I just don't have $60 extra to get it.

Thoughts?

I don't buy into the conformity that the Zalman 9700 is the best and only proper cpu cooler on the market.. it can't possibly be.

While I'm at it I might as well pick up a NZXT Apollo and some blue cathodes, ha! .. we can all be like each other ;)

Kidding, of course, since the apollo looks amazing with blue cathodes.. but really I need a CPU cooler, and the zalman isn't going to be it.. especially when I'll have a 250mm case fan mounted smack dab in front of the cpu cooling unit :D

Any other suggestions (cpu cooler related) are welcomed :)

EDIT:

Since my new case will have such a huge fan mounted and aimed directly at the cpu cooling unit, won't that huge fan help to bring the temp down?

i wouldnt say by much, i dont know about that big 120mm, but with my case open it is alot cooler then a 80mm facing it, it should help alot but up to you, buy a hsf instead of a case i reccomend but its ur choice, gl

It's a 250mm, it's a 7 1/2" fan.

I got it up to 2500Mhz stable, and it sat around 35*c, I stuck a desk fan on low next to my open case and the idle temp dropped to 29-30*c.

Does this mean that having a 7 1/2" case fan blowing at my cpu/gpu will be sufficient?

I think I'd like more opinions of CPU coolers either way, I'm going to buy the case and if I still need a CPU HSF I want to have one in mind ;)

This should give you a few ideas. I've got a case with a 25cm side fan and I really noticed the difference. One word of advice when it comes to a 25cm fan, if it doesn't come with a dust filter, make one, as these fans pull in every last bit of dust. I had to make one for my case.

why wouldn't you believe it? there has to be one that outperforms everything for at least a little while, who knows which one it is? i haven't seen anything bad about the zalman. get this one though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16835109140

The best air cooling hsf right now is the thermaltake ultra 120 extreame. Couple that with a high flow 120mm fan and you will have one chilly cpu. From what I see in reviews it performs better than soem water cooling!!!

I've got it at 2.5GHz right now, how do these numbers look to you guys?

Sorry for the jpeg, I forgot to save in png :$
