Hi, I have an Asus Motherboard and 550 Wat ATX power supply....

When i turn on the computer and go to the bios it says Cpu Fan Error

Then when i check the hardware.. the rpms of the cpu fan starts from like 1700 rpms and slowly goes down until it dies out... the temp of the computer goes up accordingly.. then when i go out of bios and boo the computer. the friggin fan starts up again.. then dies out slowly... LOL!

what the hell? do i just need a new fan? if so could somebody suggest a good one to get that would fit my computer? please help. i'd appreciate it! thanks

Well first, welcome to computerforums.com. check if you can is REALLY slowing down (take side off and look). If it is and it has weird sounds then its dying. and YES get a new fan. Don't wanna toast your CPU do you? and when you say 1700RPMS how much is it supposed to be going at (before this prob started?) downlaod CPU-z and tell us the socket type. EX: Slot 1, 478, 423. ect.

Edit:

Get a HSF at least 30 CFM. 50CFM or better if Overclocking. Aluminum heatsinks are all right, but copper is best. get arctic silver 5 too and apply a rice sized one on the CPU and push on the HSF. then attach the fan back.

Ony Thanks for the welcoming... however.. i did not know what hell you just said to me lol.... from when you said DL the cpu-Z and tell you the socket type on i am def. lost... if you want to explain it to me sweet i'd appreciate it.. if not it's ok.. i'm just gonna print out what you said and take it to the computer store and have explain it to me and stuff... heh

Here: Take the side panel off, and turn your computer on. Does the CPU fan actually start slowing down? Its the fan right below the power supply, right next to the RAM. If it is dying out, replace it immideately. If you don't, you risk overheating, or toasting your processor. And 1700RPM is not normal. That is WAY below average. Go to google.com and type in "CPU-Z download". Download it. After downloading it install it. After installing it open it. It should say your processor type, motherboard type, then your SOCKET TYPE. Look for the socket type. Examples of sockets are: Slot 1, Socket A, Socket 423. (Yours may notbe one of those though)

Sorry for double posting :o : If your fan is dying out, the best thing to do is replace the whole thing. HSF = Heatsink (the little block of metal your fan is sitting on) and the fan. CFM means how much air the fan pushes. The more the fan pushes the more cooling your processor gets. Good luck! If you need any clearer just say it! :P

Thanks man! that was perfect.. i'm gonna go to the store and get a HSF artic silver 5 and a new fan... i don't overclock but imma get CFM 50 anyway... i'm gonna take the old one to the store just so the guy can tell me if i have a fan that fits...I'll post again in a sec and let you know what kinda socket i have... thanks again.
