CPU fan...please help

I just installed a pentium D 940 to my ASUS P5LD2 Delux MB....but I am encountering problems with my CPU fan. It wont install...the holes match up correctly and everything but its as if its too low to the motherboard. Any ideas?

too low? im not sure i understand. is it the fan that came with the cpu? if not, please describe. the heatsink/fan should sit right on the cpu.

to low ? do you mean it cant be fitted because of other components in the way

hmm, did you put spacers behind the motherboard? That would explain how it's "too low"

Yes it came with a heatsink/fan...its the heatsink that I am having issues with..I did put the spacers behind the MB and there are no components in the way, the screws match up perfectly. For a better description, I cannot push the pins down into the CPU fan/heatsink holes on the motherboard, because its as if the CPU is a little too high or the copper base of the heatsink is a little too low. I think I am just going to send it back for another one..I had the CPU installed correctly.
