cpu fitting troubles

Hey all, i've finally received my components for my pc build and have only got as far as fitting the CPU. (Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16gHz)

This is my problem. The lever is very stiff and feels like it will break the cpu as i push down. The CPU arrow is pointing closest to the lever and the grooves line up. (i've taken out the dummy CPU that comes with the mobo).

The only thing i can see being the problem is that the CPU cover that i'm pushing down with the lever has a slight bend in it in the middle bending towards the mobo. Is this normal? or should i attempt to bend it straight some how?

Please help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it should be tight, also the triangle on the CPU should match up with the triangle on the motherboard CPU socket, so yes it is normal.

It really does feel like something will break though. Its creaking and very stiff. It doesn't go down as easily as videos i've seen. i really think there's something wrong. Is a concave CPU cover on the mobo normal?

uh oh... sounds like it's really really broken bad... you better just ship it all to me... :)... ill put it to use... just kidding.... i'm pretty sure that it should be tight... maybe not as tight as you make it sound tho....

Its fine, when its new it will sound like your ripping something off when you lock down the lever. ;)

Well the CPU should just drop in nicely and then you have to lock it in.... what is the CPU???

Also is this a new build???? Or just putting a new CPU in?

A Intel 775 just doesnt drop in and push the lever down like a AMD or older socket Intel. It has contacts on the processor not pins.

I have an Asus P5N-E motherboard and an Intel Q9300 and mine is hard as hell to close, it surprised me also about how stiff it was. What motherboard do you use?

I've got a Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L.

And yes, everything is new.

Thanks for the response all, i'll just go for it. I should be able to afford a new mobo if this one gets wrecked, but if the processor breaks it will be a huge set back.

Sorry for sounding like such a noob but this is my first intel (last was amd and that seemed alot easier).
