cpu & graphic card

I am planning on buying a new desktop from a retail chain. I will be getting something in the processor range of Core 2 duo E6300... Amd Athlon 64 x2 4600-5200. I will also get at least 2g of memory. I know I will need a video card to play certain games, MFSX for sure. My question. Since I know I need a video card, does that make the cpu choice less important or should I still try and get the most powerful processor I can afford? thanks

If you want to have good performance and not have major bottlenecking, then you should get a fast processor and a fast video card.

I would also go with the Core 2 Duo, not the A64 X2.

A good CPU is always important, but typically a GPU makes more of a performance difference in games than a CPU.

Usually, but that doesnt mean you can run a Celeron D and have an 8800GTS, and play games on max.
