ok, i have built a new system a while ago as a second machine for music and video, i have an amd 64 3800+ (939) and an abit AX8 and a ati x1650pro.

i used the hsf that came with the processor and it had the thermal paste on the bottom when i bought it, but i have been getting idle tempratures from the CPU of 52 and load of 59 and not only that but the fan speed reaches 5200rpm, which is so noisy, i tried to get cool and quiet working but i couldn't find the xp setup file for it.

Im also thinking of buying a new hsf and some arctic silver 5. Will this help? and if someone can recommend a hsf then that would be great. Thanks

Yikes thoes temps seem hardly normal for an A64 939. I bet a new hsf and AS5 will do the trick. I recommend the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro It's cheap and effective. I got a 3800+ also with that hsf, I get like 37 - 40 C (wich I could improve, I just need to fix my PC's airflow).

That core is a probably venice and my friend has a 3200 that runs 25 C with stock HSF and with arctic silver 5 on it the fan never gets loud at all, maby you could buy some artic silver 5 and try that first if that doesn't work you could always try the Zalman CNPS9500 (heres a picture I couldn't get a store link)

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what else would:rolleyes:
