i got a new heatsink for my CPU because i OCed it and my CPU got really hot. i got this heatsink with fan

i love the heatsink but i do notice the fan on it is running a bit to loud on idle. matter a fact the fan on the heatsink is loud then all my fans in my PC case. i want to know if theres is program that will control the speed of my fan so i can slow it down to reduce the noise when on idle and when i play games it will speed up to cool down the CPU.

or should i get another fan? i did place an order of a 4 fan pack from cooler master and i have 2 left over.

4 fan pack

but the fans that came in the 4 pack has 3 pin plug does it matter if the heat sink fan has 3 pins? because the CPU fan slot on my mobo has 4 pins. and the heat sink fan has 4 pin plug on it.

Configured correctly in the BIOS the fan on that cooler should be inaudible at idle at about 600 RPM and ramp up to about 2000 RPM max as the CPU temps rise with load. Setting are under HW Monitor in the BIOS setup. Settings for the CPU fan will be Smart Q-Fan Function (Enable/Disable), Auto Fan Start Voltage, Auto Fan Start Temp, Auto Fan Full Speed Temp. It will take some trial and error to get it configured to idle at about 600 and then ramp up smoothly as temps rise off idle.

If you substitute a 3-pin fan on the 4-pin MB header you will lose the auto speed function. Fan will run one speed only - Which would likely result in a fan that runs louder than needed at idle (where most systems spend about 95% of their time), or a fan that is not moving enough air to maintain safe temps under load.
