CPU Heatsinks?

When would you need a CPU heatsink? (i.e. above and beyond intel block and fan)

Would it be overkill to add a Thermalright XP-90C heatsink if I'm not a big gamer or overclocker? I am on the computer most of each day, however.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Almost generically, whenever you have a CPU

It would probably be overkill however you do need a HS (unless of course u plan on using blocks etc)

I've gone ahead and ordered a Thermalright XP-90C heatsink for my system. Want to protect the CPU as much as possible...

Will be throwing it all together in a couple of days... :eek:

What sort of question was that?How about you turn your pc on with no Heatsink and that msot likely the best way to see how if effects it... Also get ready with a fire extinguisher 'HINT HINT'.

WTF? Do you think that your reply is helping anyone? ...and that on top of the fact that he already had his question answered by Praetor (and rather politely you should note) and already ordered a HSF.

Ok done. It turns on without a heatsink gets well into the boot process and turns off. WHat's you're point?

I've got the XP-90C and have it lapped.

Is lapping the CPU IHS also advisable?

Went ahead and exchanged the 9550 for the 6600gtOC BTW.
