I will be buying a new pc soon. My only requirement other than basic everyday computing is to be able to run Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I know I will need a video card. What is the least expensive CPU I can buy without giving up the game at a high quality. Thanks

Core 2 duo are the CPus that you should go for. The e6300 is cheap, and will run your games flawlessly. The only other thing you should look out for is the graphic card. Even if you have a server motherboard with Quad Q6600's and integrated graphics, you wont be able to even start flight simulator. My recommendation:

E6300 and 8600GT

Any other opinions?

his suggestions above should be fine. FSX SP1 added support for 2 and 4 cores, so you should see a big improvement with getting a dual core over single core. FSX is much more processor dependant than it is graphics dependant, but a good graphics card is needed as well. The 8600 series should be fine, but if you do have the extra money, go with the 8800GTS/GTX, as they will likely work better than the 8600's once the DX10 patch for FSX comes out in the Fall.

8800GTX/S will do very well - but be advised that they are (IMO) a little overkill. With E6300, 8600GT, 2GB RAM you can get excellent gaming quality.
