CPU.. HT compatible??

I need to know whether my CPU is HT compatible... any software to figure this out would be most appreciated.

My comp is a few years old and as such, by now i have thrown out most manuals, i was pondering upgrading the Mobo but am at a standstill as a result of an issue.

Lavalys EVEREST (HE) says that it isnt HT compatible, however, an EA diagnostic tool said yes.... the tool which came with my copy of the godfather, said that it supported hyper threading technology...

How wwould i gain the specs to show to you, shold i get the entire everst report? or do you only want the names of teh CPU/ Mobo etc...?

I am not a hardcore gamer, but i do game often, my aim is not to create a monster so i dont need dualcore with 10 gigs of ram and two 1 gig v/cards.
Instead, i wanted to upgrade to AGP 8x and lose the crappy RDRAM. HT is a bonus... because i dont have the dough for teh expensive CPU's and was hoping to keep my current one.

a cpu can't be HT compatible, it just "uses HT technolodgy"

and no your cpu is way too old to have HT
 
ya it is an older cpu wich means it probably isnt i think intel cam out with there ht at th 3 gig marck onm the p4 if not maybe 2.4 is the lowest i would imagine u should upgrade ur prossesor anyway if u do get this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131517 and this cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562 if u conisder it that isnt very expensive for a cpu upgrade and u will enjoy the performence because this prossesor in gamming even outperforms the intel pentium extreme wich is 1058.00$

And let's not jump the gun at all. He didn't even ask for upgrades and we dont even know what he uses his comptuer for.

Sorry guys Internet gave up on me.... stupid ethernet.
I do use my comp for gaming but not hardcore.... mostly any game that catches my fancy... i want to be able to play games like AOE3/ Oblivion on average and without going hobo. I occasionally game... I cannot handle AMD cause i know didly about it and PCIE makes me twitch.... I just experimented with the CPU of mine and i OCd it to 2.1GHZ
Trouble is that the multiplier is 20x and the FSB is 100 [yikes].. no problems i am happy to say, although excess periods of staying awake (for the comp i mean) causes it to crash.. I figure that i need a good CPU cooler...
I want to get AGP8x [sad eh], 5 PCI, firewire, gigabit, USB2 (opt cause i got a PCI card w/5), HT and DDR. My current mobo has 256mb of Rambus!! can you believe it. I hate the builder at this point. im gonna spend like 250-300 on a mobo/cpu/vid/memory so any deals would be much appreciated

AMD is sort of the "gaming cpu". And if you know didly about it we can help you. :)

Also, PCI-E is the main GPU interface. AGP is pretty hard to come by. With that budget you won't get much...and I don't think there are many mobos with 5 PCI. 4 is already a lot. I'll be back in a sec with a setup.

I went a bit overbudget. You could probably downgrade the GPU if you want but the 7600GT is great for the price.

If you could up it by 30$ you could get a better mobo or ram. By 75 and you could get a gig of ram and a nicer mobo.

I have the same cpu as you and I was able to OC from 2ghz to 2.5 w/o changing the vcore. Hardly gave me any problems. Only problem is my computer is sitting on carpet underneath my desk where theres no air ventalition, so it gets really hot b/c it uses recycled hot air. I'm using stock hsf with AS5 thermal paste but it still gets really warm down there. Keeps my feet warm during winter. :]
 
don't get socket 754 like mrbagrat just suggested. socket 754 doesn't support dual channel memory.

thats a very balanced system right there...
the reason i think you should spend a bit more money on a 7600gs with 939 pin instead is because it will need to back up some video memory for newer games... and dual channel memory will definitely help out ALOT!
the 7600gs is all you need really, a 7600gt for the money is overkill (especially if you're getting only 512mb of single channel ram)
total is $372 but its much more worth it than getting a 754 mobo.. trust me, i owned one at one point lol...
plus with socket 939 the cpu is MUCH more upgradable

lol this reminds me of when i upgraded my dads machine... he had ddr266 memory and a p4 2.4ghz.
he now has ddr400 memory and an athlon 64 1.8ghz (754 socket, he doesn't game) and he absolutely loves it.
he still needs better hard drives i think he's got 5400rpm's in there...

the processor isn't worth it if he doesn't have a halfway decent video card to do his gaming with.
plus, theres no ram in there! :P hes looking for a budget system that'll get him gaming lol

yea, 754 isn't that great... thats why they make semprons for it... lol
i used to have a 754 socket 3400+ and i was disappointed when i found out the second stick i bought wouldn't let me run dual channel lol...
anyways, yea s939 is definitely worth it, and upgradable too! :)
