CPU in BIOS

My BIOS says the CPU is running at 800 MHz whereas I have a 3.4 GHz processor. It says the same thing in the Control Panel. The computer is running fast enough for a 3.4 GHz processor. What gives?

Are you sure thats not front side bus of 800mhz? What processor do you have exactly?

Run cpuz and post the image of it.

It's possible you have cool n quiet enabled which will reduce the speed of the cpu in order to keep heat down. The cpu will automatically increase speed when needed.

Cool n Quiet

Is Cool n Quiet in Setup? Is it good enabled or should I maybe disable it? Is this a default setting? By the way, I downloaded CPU-Z. The CPU is registering at 800 MHz. The FSB is registering at 200 MHz. I haven't been able to figure out how to send an image.

Doesnt hurt anything to keep it enabled. It will ramp back up under load. Just saves power when at idle. Its in the bios if you want to disable it.
