So i tried to switch cpu's in my dad's computer.
Just took the HSF off, switched them and applied new TP.
Now the computer wont power on. like i checked all the connections and stuff, but nothing.
So i tried again with the original cpu. Still nothing. tried clearing the bios and cmos.
Not working.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Just disassemble the entire rig, look around a little, and put it back in pieces. May work. I once had my computer not booting/posting, I took out the heatsink and CPU and disconnected everything, didn't find anything and put everything back in pieces and - ta-daa - it worked.

hmmm ok ill try. any other suggestions?
Last time i think it started working after i reset the bios. now it doesnt seem to want to.

nope dropping paste wouldnt have been possible at all.
and static isnt likely. after playing around with it a bit i managed to start it up fine. then i changed cpu's again and now i cant get it working.
so who has some more ideas?
i have tried reseting the bios and cmos and taking everything out and putting it back in again.

I seriouly cannot work out what to do :(

Nothing is working. I just took all the cables and stuff out, and the bios battery and cmos jumper. Also took the ram out. left it for a while. Then tried, NOTHING.

one thing i did notice is that one time the cpu fan did move a tiny bit. like it had recieved a tiny jolt of power. But yeah... I have no idea what to do. This sucks... any assistance would be great, thankyou

no. i discharge myself on the case. both of the cpu's are still working. but something just isnt right.

As I mentioned earlier, i tried the original cpu again. And they have both run in that system before. So compatibility is ruled out.

Now on the other news, Thanks to Meanman(twat) I tried my psu in the system and it worked. Which means theres a 99% chance that the psu has died.
Ill get a new one sometime and see how it goes.

Thanks for your suggestions people :)

Ok new question, Can a 20 pin power supply work with a 24 pin mobo?
theres no graphics card to power or anything, its a mictoatx mobo.
I need to get it working really soon and eventually will get that convertor for the extra 4 pins, but will it work with only 20 pin psu?

thankq
