cpu installation

Are all cpu installations the same.....what I am asking is, do you do the same stuff when installing a cpu 939 pin as you do a 754, or socket a cpu? Also do you put the arctic silver on exactly the same way in all of these or are there different setups in all of these other than the fact that you just have more pins?

1. When you buy the CPU it comes with some form of manual. Read it. If you buy an OEM CPU without that, then you need a fan. The fan comes with a manual which also outlines how to install the CPU. Same goes for the mobo. And some cases.

2. Pins dont matter. CPU housing does. For instance, with K7s you dont need to cover everything you see with thermal goop. With the K8s you can and should.

ok

so basically all applications are different......I was only wandering because I planned on upgrading to bigger motherboard and cpu in about 6 months and I was wanting to know if I had to get an expert to put the cpu in or not

Well 99% of the time you will never need an "expert" to install the cpu cuz all that expert is gonna do is ... uh.... put it over the socket and let gravity do the rest ;)

LOL seriously man, im quite certain you can google yourself to a picture by picture guide if you really needed but as long as you take things slow and apply common sense then you'll be fine.
