cpu lapping

someone posted up a really good guide to them lapping their cpu, had some good pics and came out with a cracking mirror finish.

I have a friend who wants to lap his processor and wanted to show him said guide. The one i'm after as actually posted as a thread here I believe.

basically polisihing it to get as many of the microscopic mountains and valleys out so you get a better heat transfer.

Its not polishing it, its sanding the IHS too make it flat, then poeple can polish it for cosmetics

Theres not much to it, get wet/dry sandpaper. Start with 400 and work your way up to 2000. Put the paper on something strong and flat like a piece of metal or thick glass, keep the paper wet and only rub the processor and heatsink in one direction not circles, as far as polishing them I never saw much of a difference in temps in a polished one and one thats lapped good.

That's a pretty good guide, don't know if you'd see me doing it though, maybe on an old Athlon XP or something
