CPU lapping

is it good to lap a processor also the cpu fan to loose 10degres celsius? I know that will void the warranty but is it worth to do this?

It depends on what you plan to do. If you are just looking at general usage then I wouldn't say it's worth it. If you are going to overclock as far as you can possibly go and need the lower temperatures then it might be.

am looking to loose 10degres because my processor Q8200 overclocked to 3,22ghz is at 70degres(I know is hight for a overclock) at full load 100% with occt and I am asking if is worth lapping this cpu and Im asking to is lapping really work and make you loose mid 10degres?

Not sure if it will give you 10c lower, that a lot, i lapped jus my HS and it gave me an extra 2c lower :)

It was a nice cheap thing to do, cost me 17 bucks. Worth it imo, nice little project.

On stock cooling too :)

well me I want to lap also the cpu not just the hs and I use a aftermarket cpu fan its the arctic freezer 7 pro rev2.0, not sure if this true or just a rumor but heard alot saying you will loose a mid 10degres that why am asking here to expert :P

Get a heatsink + fan that's around 50 or 60 dollars on NewEgg and you should end up with a good quality heatsink (but don't buy it without going through us first ;) )

If you want to lap, lap both the heatsink and the CPU. If you want to lap, don't get a HDT (heatpipe direct touch, basically exposed heatpipes on the base of the heatsink).

With that CPU, it's perfectly fine to lap it as it's not insanely expensive itself and it won't be so much to replace if you mess up (not much of a chance that'll happen).

am thinking of buying the coolermaster v8, I saw alot reviews and benchmark agaisnt other cpu fan and it look pretty strong for a 60$ cpu fan when it was agaisnt some who worth 70$ to 80$, he got the same temperature and conclusion was fine for me.

so am asking; what you think about this cpu fan is it worth to buy it? and after that lapp the cpu + the heatsink?

I have a V8 and it is a decent cooler. Its not one of the best out there, so don't expect magic just because it looks awesome. It keeps my rig cool and depending on what you decide to do with your computer it should manage.

10c is quite a lot, the most i've seen lapping take temps down is about 5-7c. Try get another cooler if you are looking for a major decrease in temps, otherwise the V8 should serve its purpose

oh well, 5-7c is pretty good to, I dont want to spend on a big heatsink for me 60$ for a heatsink is enought, I know its not the best but it will certainly beat my current arctic freezer 7 pro rev2.0. my cpu is at 3ghz with maximum 60c with my current heatsink and I just want to get 3,2ghz or maximum maximum 3,4ghz with the V8, right now when I put 3,2ghz I hit maximum 70c and is too much for a overclock for me personally because when dust come in the cpu fan the celsius will go up fast.

Thank you for your help guys!

Unless the surface finish is very poor on both cpu and heatsink, lapping isnt gonna net you anywhere near 5-7c.

The thermalright ultra 120 extreme can be found for ~$50, and is superior to the V8.

yeah I know the thermalright consider to the benchmark I saw is superior but the problem is that he is only lga 1366 socket compatible and am with a Q8200 so lga 775, but I personally dont know if I can use the arctic freezer 7 pro rev2.0 bracket lga 775 for the thermalright if yes am totaly getting it!

ive lapped a intel quad 9550 oc @ 4.1ghz and my vendetta 2 cooler with as5, worked great was getting high temps before lapping 75c now 68c. ebays got 10 sheets of sandpaper you pick your grit get i would get 1)300 grit -1)400- 2)800- 3)1000- 3)2000.
like to try a corsair h50 water cooler on this cpu.
