CPU or RAM OCing problem?

I finally got the PC in my sig built. I tried to OC it to a mere 225 Mhz ext clock and it failed...odd. I tried 216 and worked worked. Is this a RAM problem because this is just ValueSelect RAM. Do you think i could get my clock higher if I upgraded to say...Corsair XMS or OCZ RAM? I am thinking about doing that but do you think it would help?

Here are the specs of my current overclock...
Voltage:
CPU 1.425 V
DDR 2.65 V
VTTMEM 1.3 V (does anyone know what this is?)
Nforce4 1.5 V
HTT 1.2 V
Specs
CPU clock= 216 Mhz
RAM OCd to DDR433
HTT mult 4x
HTT width is 16 up and 16 down.

What do ya think? I hope it is just because of cheapo RAM.

Manual says this is the voltage of the VTTMEM port, i wouldn't worry about it, it is normally jsut halve that of your vdimm

I cant really see what is limiting your oc, have you tried running a divider between your ram and cpu. See if you can oc you cpu more that way. Maybe up your vdimm slightly ( i assuem 2.65v is stock - it looks stock to me)
 
when you say it "failed", do you mean XP wont boot, it crashes when you login, it wont boot up, ect?

If it loads the BIOS but doesnt load XP, then its probably a conflict with your sata controller.

It could be a problem with the SATA (but not a conflict), but the core speed is still quite low for that.

Also many overclocks will fail on booting to xp, but they will load bios fine. This is a common set of symptoms and is not indicative soley of sata issues :)
 
I am at school right now so i don't know exactly what it said but after the POST logo it says "system now running in safe mode"
"please re-setting your clock settings" and it says F1 to continue or Del for setup menu
I tried setting the RAM to DDR400 (it lets me specify the exact speed i want) and it did the same. 2.65 is .05 V over stock
How would I fix a problem with the SATA? You might be right because one time I actually got it to boot but it said it couldn't find a system file on the HDD (or corrupted) and after I reset the settings it went back to normal. Should I try and use an old ATA hard drive that i got?
 
I think i've eliminated the SATA controller as a problem source. When I came home, i tried OCing it at 125Mhz and not boot at all. Lowered it to 120Mhz and it boot to windows loading screen and blue-screened. I put a divider (set RAM to DDR400) and it boot to windows but some programs popped up errors. I lowered it back to 216Mhz and that is what I am on now. I think this confirms that I need some better RAM. what do ya think?

I have the same ram and it is horrible with overclocks...i set a divider so its running less than 200mhz rite now but my cpu is up to 3.556 ghz. Im mad now cuz i got 2 gigs of this stuff.
 
Alright. this is temporary RAM only, I was using my other PC's RAM while I get enough money to get some Overclocking RAM. :D For now, I'll stick with my 5,627 3dMark05 score (trying to get 6000)
