So last night I took off my HSF in order to clean out the dust in my heatsink. I also undid the heatsink latch but didnt take off the heatsink.

Now my temps are hotter than usual, do you think that I josseled the heatsink and the contact is poor now? I dont really know what to do. While play a game this afternoon my core temp hit 85C!!!!

help

Yes, it's very possible that something was mis-aligned when locking everything back down. A very common problem is snagging the lip of the HSF on one of the capacitors near the Socket. I'd pull the HSF off, then put fresh TP on the CPU. Be gentle putting the HSF back on and make certain nothing is caught on a capacitor.

I dont really think i jiggled anything though. I did not take the heatsink off. All I did was undo the latch and when I found that i had to play with some other things in order to take off the HS then i just relatched it.

I am currently experimenting with temps and gaming. Under full load it was running at about 80C, I know that sounds hot but it is an older system. If it gets to mid 80s i rip the side panel off and blast the computer with fan air. I think i am going to order some thermal paste and a side panel fan soon, after some more experimentation.

yeah i think i am going to have to do that. I am going to install an intake fan right above the cpu on the side panel and see what that does to my temps. If that doesnt drop the temps, i am going to buy some TC and reapply it to the heatsink and the whole deal.

Thanks.

Sometimes that's enough to break a set-in TP seal. Before you go through the trouble of lapping a CPU:rolleyes:, spend the 10 minutes to re-apply TP and re-seat the HSF?
