Cpu Overheating Issue ???

Hey Guys ​

I Was Hoping That Someone Can Help Me With My Issue. My Cpu On Idle Is Around 43* But Once I Enter A Game Such As NFS Most Wanted After 10 - 15mins of game play I Start To Hear Alarms Going Off. I Have Set My Cpu Temperature Settings To 60* For Safety. Here Are My Pc Specs

Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz Processor
Ati Radeon 9600 pro 256mb agp 8x
2048mb Ram
Windows xp Pro
Zalman Heatsink And Fan

Any Help Is Appreciated In Advance.

P4 model cpu are notorious for running warmer then many. A few questions here would nclude what model Zalman cooler are you running since that is in your signature and what compound was used? Another question concerns how much air flow do you have going through the case itself. When installing the Zalman did you run the system for 3 or 4 hrs. and shurdown for several hours after to allow the initial bonding of the thermal compound as the system cooled down?
 
Ok The Cooler Is A Zalman CNPS7000B-AICu Also The Room Temperature Is 26.5 * I Didn't Run The Computer For Long After Installing The Cpu. Therefore It May Not Have Gone Through The Heat Cycles. Should I Change The Max Temp Upto 70* And If So Will It Damage My Cpu. What Do U Suggest ?
 
On the last build here the cpu was running at 74C! That was rather quick when the fan on a Scythe cooler suddenly quit. By the time I saw where the temp was when looking at the hardware monitor in the bios the cpu was at the 85C max! ouch! You don't to let it get that high by any means. The high temps like that can really do some harm. With a good load you shouldn't be seeing over the low 50s at the highest without some extra or larger case fans inside. That's when ocing with that cooler. 50C alarm bells sound here!

The same model cooler was bought too late for the last cpu here. By that time the cpu would no longer run at the 200mhz fsb. It somehow backclocked down to a slower model. When installing it did you use the thermal paste that came with it or a good one like Artic Silver 5? I usually toss the low quality stuff they throw in. Besides a lack of air flow a low end compound won't transfer the heat off of the cpu itself.
 
pentium 4s run hot so i would not be to concerned to see the temp go up to
60c but any higher could damage it have you oc it if so roll it back like pc eye said use artic silver 5 and make sure you have a good air flow around the pc and in the pc use compressed air to clean out any dust ,dont use compressed air near a naked flame and dont spray it to close to the components or it will condence into water.
 
The main problem with that model Zalman is that it was intended more for use on a P III or Socket A ,462 type cpu. But it's still better then a stock hsf since the P4s always run at higher temps. How long have you've been seeing the higher temps?
 
In Reply To JlCollins005 Comment I Have Seen These Temperatures Since I Built The Computer I Do Not Have Any Case Fans In At The Moment Only The Cpu Cooler So Do You Reckon If I Take The Max Temp Upto 70* It Won't Harm The Cpu And Maybe Give Me A Bit More Game Time lol
 
If you are using this as strictly a gaming case you will want to get some air flow going by installing some case fans for drawing in cooler air as well as blowing the heated air out of the case entirely. That will do more to bring all temps down. Keep pushing the max temp and plan on a new cpu soon!
 
no he is saying if u keep bumping the max temp u will be buying a new cpu very soon, and also is saying to spend a few bucks on some case fans to circulate airflow
 
Fans will definently need to be looked at, getting yourself some good fans should cool your computer down, check the CMOS on heating tempreture.
 
see what size fans ur case will allow, and go to newegg grab urself so 80mm or 120mm descent brand, and then grab urself some arctic 5 thermal paste
 
I Think Its Safe To Put This Thread To Bed . I Will Let Ya's Know How I Get Along When I Get The Case Fans Going. Cheers For All The Help
 
If you need additional help with finding a vendor try pming ceewi1. But you definitely want to get those temps down. adding more cooling to a case can be a big help in lowering cpu temps at times. I found that out when having to swap cases with new board here with a large cpu cooler. The case only had two 80mm case fans seeing the boards temps climb higher then the cpu's.

The new case used since then with three 120mm and one 140mm front intake saw the board temp drop from 48C to 31C when idle. The cpu dropped from 46C down to 33C. Why? the increased air flow drew cooler air in while the heated air was being blown out.
