Ive been having overheating issues with my cpu for a while now, the temp has gone up to 90ocs so I've bought a new cpu cooler with led lights which is a cool master I replaced the thermal paste and put a new rear fan inside my new galaxy 3 pc case. The temps have been up to 40ocs the processor I have is amd athon 3200+ Windows xp win fast motherboard socket 754 & 512mb ram. Pc didn't like being touched especially hard drive coz kept coming up with ntldr missing it took several times for the message to go this was after switching pc off to try and sort out the problem with Pc being slow , so after putting on thermal paste pc was going slow 10 mins after it being on couldn't do anything at all. Motherboard kept beeping after I switched It back on after sorting out ntldr issue so took the ram out it took several times to stop it beeping. The next issue I have is after Windows xp logo finished loading when it's about to load the desktop PC restarts itself, what do you think the problem could be ? Do you think the psu or cpu is failing ? Could it be the motherboard failing ?

Do you think the reason it's overheating is coz it's old?
If i can't sort it then I'll have to get new processor motherboard & ram. What motherboards ,ram and CPUs are the best to get?

Bit bizarre on why it's restarting just as it's going to the desktop don't understand what's going on there
And after putting thermal paste it was on the go slow ten minutes after so those are the two things I don't get

If the cpu has been overheating then chances are the system has just been shutting down at various times and probably killing the HDD. In all honesty though, its time for a totally new machine.

I agree with John.

If it was working ok for you then I would understand keeping it and not upgrading, but now its causing problems I would just replace it, it isn't worth the time or money to fix.
