CPU Question from a Know-Nothing

Hi. I was looking at getting some software, and I'm trying to figure out if my laptop can handle it. I wasn't sure.

The minimum Processor Speed for the software is Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz [EMT64]

Recommended is Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz

I have Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00GHz on my laptop now


Just based on the GHz of the three it would seem that my computer wouldn't be able to handle it. But then again I don't know anything about this stuff. I know I don't have the recommended speed, but do I at least have the minimum speed?
 
With minimum specifications you get minimum and poor performance with a software. Your processor has a lot more processing power than a Pentium 4 but it less power than a Core 2 Quad Core Q8400 processor.

What other specifications does this software call for? A processor is only part of the requirements.
 
GHz means nothing when comparing different architectures... 2.8GHz Pentium 4 would probably perform about the same as a 1.4GHz Core2, and your CPU has two cores. The CPU is well above minimum requirements, but doesn't match the recommended specs...

Though like 2GB said, other specs matter too.
 
The only other requirement (aside from external hardware that I already own) is 4GB RAM suggested (1GB RAM minimum). My computer has 4GB of RAM. So basically the only requirement I'm behind on is the CPU, and I'm not sure how far behind a Core 2 duo will put me compared to the Core 2 Quad Core Q8400. Any ideas about how well this software will run?
 
Well, it should run alright since it's above the minimum requirements... knowing what exact piece of software you're talking about would help, though.

That computer should easily handle it... we ran it on our school computers with Athlon 64s on them.

It probably was an older version, but your laptop should be cool with it.
