i am considering on buying a Intel i7 920 cpu. what i have read is that everyone uses 3x2gb of ram why is that. I want to use ASUS P6T mb and you can go up to 12 gb of ram on the board. i there any reason everyone is going with just 6gb's of ram.

thank you

It's because you can use tri-channel memory, so a setup of ram that is divisible by three is ideal (3, 6, 9, etc)

also a 32bit system only takes a max of 3.25gig ram

but the big reason is as said above has to be the tri-channel memory

would it be a wast to put more in or not work to it's full potential. i have vista ultimate that is 64 bit so it will recognize more than 3.25gig ram.

thank you

More than 6gig is probably a waste unless you are doing memory intensive things. That does not include gaming/internet/normal use. In other words, unless you know you need the extra memory, you wont notice a difference in speed.
