CPU questions?!

I am using currently the Intel Core 2 Duo E4400, or Intel Core 2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00 GHZ (I don't know which name to put from CPU-Z), I was wondering if I am able to over clock it, or if you guys have any suggestions on to get a new core, I've seen some cores that are 2.66Ghz + I think the Intel Pentium D which is 2.66 ghz. Although this is little to many of you guys, I just need some suggestions.

+ I am using an ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard.

EDIT: I ACTUALLY HAVE THE HP PAVILION a6120n pc, if that makes any difference.

is this a prebuilt computer that was purchased at a store as i cannot find any actual info on it, so i don't think overclocking is going to be recomended, but you can do it in bios but if it is prebuilt then you most likely can't, and otherwise you can get something like nvidia system tools, or something similar, then bump the ghz up slowly, look it up on youtube as far as that, and btw it is the mobo that determins overclocking
 
If this is an HP computer the bios is going to be locked, I don't know much about that problem but I have heard of others flashing their own Bios'.
 
i don't recommend that since if you mess up a little, or it does wich is not un likely, you will be royaly f'd and have to get either a new mobo or comp, and i doubt hp will do any warranty as i bet they can figure this out, us an in os app to oc, but don't do it much as your heatsink will suck donkey and bios won't support much oc'ing, they can only handle certain fsb's, really you should look at buying a new or building a new pc, and what do you want to overclock for, it is most likely a stupid reason that will recieve nearly no benefit and only shorten the life of your computer.
 
oh okay, I was thinking about getting a test bed, so I can move parts around, such as a new mother board, because I don't really like getting a prebuilded computer because I like picking my parts, so yeah.
 
Thanks for your reply, also how about new cores? Do you guys suggest I get a new core though? I use this computer for gaming, and i say it's decent. Not the best though.
 
if yo mean a new cpu, then that will work but if you want a truly noticable difference then you'd need an lga 1155/56 mobo and any i series cpu, the 1155 and a sandy bridge i3 2100 will make you wonder how you used that for so long, and if the gpu is as old as that stuff then you's probably want something a little newer to go with the others, so you could use you current hdd's and periferals and everything and see if your psu is good, but for about 350 you could get a good upgrade worth overclocking, but in this case you won't need it and it will be alot better anyways so no point in risking it.
 
Or, well, I would recommend just picking up a quad core AMD processor, since more and more games are accessing cores now a days, a quad would be perfect now and some more time into the future. I also think that AMD is a bit cheaper. With this you'd need an AM3-AM3+ motherboard and you do use Sata right? Just search newegg for one :P. Also what type of GPU and PSU do you currently have?
 
I don't really have a high watted one but, I can link my computer specs from HP.
my GPU "g92" or nvidia gefore 9800 gt. I might do some major upgrades to my computer, such as motherboards(if required if i get a new processor), new power supply so my graphics card can run at it's most. But since it is prebuilt, i might just get a new computer when I can, but for now I just wanted to change some stuff it possible

I don't know my PSU.
The only difference now is that I have a different GPU and 4 GB ram.

EDIT: i believe my PSU is 250 watt.. i think all my parts together exceeds it i don't know though.
and my gpu takes 400w minimum, oh dear..

No ocing on that computer with that psu period.

You can flash the bios to unlock ocing, but the results will be minimal.

Not worth it mate, keep it stock,.
 
Alright, do you recommend upgrading parts? I have a low budget, just wanted to change some parts up and make it run a bit faster.
Or am I off building a new pc myself, and use some old parts like my HDD, GPU, and RAM.
 
question: the processor will make things run faster in your system right? or will help at least? since mine is 2.00 GHZ the upgrade information is

can you tell us what you would be willing to spend, and i might be able to recomend a combo or something with a newer mobo and cpu that''s work, and be able to use your current ram and stuff, or maybe new ram and stuff if you can spend enough

i found some CPU's that i think may be compatible and is better then my core 2 duo @ 2.00 GHZ
