CPU questions?!

well really i'd say to wait a month or 2 then you can just get a new mobo, cpu, ram, and psu, that would make it alot easier for you and allow for future upgrades

okay, good idea, but do you think i should get one of those for now? and are any better then my core 2 duo @ 2.00 ghz? they're only 10~15 dollars since i'm buying them off someone.

how about the pentium 4? or is it not the same in the compatible upgrades?

is it the more ghz the better and faster?
 
yes and no, ghz is how many cycles it does, there is another measurement for how much it does per cycle, but as a general rule yes, but be warned that a core 2 will do more per cycle than a pentium 4, or so i've been told at least.
 
really i'd recommend saving up for another month or 2 and get something good as in new mobo psu ram and cpu, which you could do for like 270 usd with a quad core 4gb ram and a decent psu after mir.

Since we get similar questions regarding upgrading computers now at the end of the manufacturer's support cycle, could you please update the Forum if you do upgrade your computer.
 
Even the top of the line Pentium 4 processors are pathetic compared to a Core 2 Duo processor. The technology is so much better with a Core 2 Duo. If you really want a jump in processing power be prepared to dish out around $300.

I would say look at the following:

Socket AM3+ motherboard
4 gigabytes of DDR3 1866 RAM
AMD Zambezi Core Processor (they will likely be released within 40 days)

or

Socket 1155 motherboard
4 gigabytes of DDR3 1600 RAM
Pentium G840 Dual-Core Processor
 
if you go 1155, you have to get an i series cpu, others should be outlawed, they work but will be no where near as good for not much less to tell the truth
 
Core 2 duo at the bottom level will rape a Pentium 4.

If you wish to get a new machine post your budget else the e6700 is about your best bet.
