CPU reading at 200Mhz

Hi. When I boot my pc, the bios seems to be saying that my pc is running at 200Mhz
Is this maybe the FSB speed? Is this normal or is my bios maybe displaying incorrect info?
I have an AMD Athalon 3200+, which should run at 2 Ghz...and seems to run fine..boot is kinda slow however
Why would it display only 200Mhz?
Also, although I don't use RAID, the RAID setup seems to be bad on my motherboard.. I doubt this would affect my issue tho...

You are talking about the AMD Atholon XP3200+ 2,205ghz model cpu there. The board most likely is running DDR 400 memory correct? That would be PC3200 memory. Now divide 400mhz by 2 in order to see what the bios post screen will show. 200mhz is the fsb(2x200=400).

You have to remember to add dual channel into the works to understand how this works. For PC2700 memory with that model cpu you would then have to lower the memory clock down to 166mhz for the 333mhz memory then used.

In system stats in control panel, It lists 2.01 GHz. I believe I do have ddr 400 memory..it sounds familiar. How can I tell? (by memory you mean RAM right?)

As for speeding up the boot process, there are a few things that can be done. Under the bios, set any drives to the "user" setting rather than auto. Typically the settings will automatically be picked up within the bios so there's no need for them to be checked each time the machine POST's.

As for the actual boot process, killing any startup programs would be about the only way to speed things up. Download Hijackthis and post the log here.

While in Msconfig disabling unneeded start up items, hit the Boot.ini tab and check the noGUIboot option. It disables the loading of a bump mapping driver that allows the screen to display graphics before boot. It will remove the Windows splash screens you see at the start of Windows, and shave a second or two off boot time.
 
The 2.21ghz is more of a rounded figure from the actual depending on the board it is installed on. Asus boards come with their own overclocking utility on the newer models while the Sockets often saw a small boost over other makes.

There are a few good steps for helping improve system performance in general as well as seeing Windows load a little faster. With the msconfig utility you can reduce the amount of startups by disabling anything non essential seen in the startup group. Those are things that automatically load along with Windows.

Besides posting a log a more thorough method is the use of an automatic registry cleaner. Over a lengthy period of time now useless entries remain in the system registry when uninstallers fail to remove everything. It's kind of like finding a folder leftover after you know you removed a program. But this is garbage that won't always be seen as a startup item.

The easiest for most is the freeware called CCleaner that also cleans up useless temp folders that take up hard drive space. That's found at http://www.ccleaner.com/

For the more advanced user who is more familiar with manually editing the registry itself I would then point them at the other two freewares in mind RegCleaner and RegSeeker.

RegCleaner opens up to main window that shows all non MS programs installed. It also has the option for opening the regedit tool while including an automatic registry cleanup feature. http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm

RegSeeker is also one for the more advanced user since that can be used to locate and remove driver files from the system32 folder as well as the registry entries for them. http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

With any registry edit the main advice is caution. Even removing entries found in an HT log can be cause for concern at times. One mistake can lead to a need to reinstall a program or even Windows itself.

Nice program! My motherboard is a Gigabyte NF-CK804, and it lists the processor as running 2.01 GHz and 201MHz FSB..but the memory just lists as "DDR." Is this DDR1? Or how do I find out its version?

I've disabled GUI on startup.

I'll also run CCCleaner and HijackThis...is it ok to just post a log in this thread?

Yeah, it should say DDR2 if that's what you have. I'm sure you could search on the internet for your mobo specs to double check.

A look at the surface scan of the registry there shows a download manager that could allow for some types of adwares and spywares. I see you are running Avast and even better is SiSoftware's Sandra. That's a good program there. If you are not using Windows Messanger that can be one item disabled in the services section of the msconfig utility.
 
That's the most common item to see system slowdowns namely leftovers referred to as "orphans" in the system registry. The links posted earlier are for free reigistry tools with automatic cleaning tools included. You just have to look over the help files to insure that you don't remove anything manually by accident.

Otherwise those and reducing items on the startup group in the msconfig are good for seeing a smooth running system. I run RegCleaner regularly since a screen capture program keeps creating a new entry for every screen shot taken even after one is renamed from a number to a name that applies. Those simply point at the MyDocuments and subfolders while the file once renamed is saved elsewhere.

The cleaners may fix your problems with the missing files located at the bottom of the log. Most of this should be fine to erase, but still be sure to make backups of everything just in case... There's an option in one of the menus of Highjackthis. Though, it should be set by default.

The problem with that one it's still in beta since idyllhands may not have any experience with problems still seen in that form of evaluation copy. RegCleaner and CCleaner are both in finished versions and ready for use even with coaching if needed for someone with less experience.

With RegCleaner there are no new entries created when you double click on the download. The installer simply creates a desktop shortcut. You simply go to the tool drop down menu on the main window's menu bar and choose the registry cleanup option. That will bring out a side menu where the automatic cleaner item is selected. It cleans up unattached entries fast then you simply exit it. That one works on all versions of Windows from 95 to Vista never tried on 64bit however.

CCleaner starts off with a list of items checked off like your IE browser history and temp files. That will also cleanup the never ending temp folders leftover on the drive from installers that waste drive space. That one uses a typical full install method.
