CPU sizzle?

Well, this f***ing blows... I remount the board, plug in 24-pin MB power, CPU power, attach heatink + fan onto CPU, plug in the CPU fan. Start the machine... works for about 3 seconds and bam!, MB catches on fire, LOL

Jesus... this sucks. All the mounts were correct this time, I don't get what happened. Thankfully nothing else got burned... who knows about the CPU being good anymore or not.

This really sucks alot, I'm out at least $160 now and if the CPU is messed up, I'm out about $350.

Christ.

When you had that riser on there and it made that crackling noise it probable burned out something on the board and when you removed it the power went through the board till it got to that place and (short out). I've had them short out and get a flash and a puff of smoke then shut down, never had one really catch on fire. If its a new board and CPU, RMA them and tell them when you booted up it just caught fire.

Interesting...

Yeah, I will RMA them. It literally caught on fire and I had to quickly unplug the PSU and blow out the fire out. What a complete bummer but I will not deny the sweetness of it... I started laughing.

Thanks for all the help StrangleHold, I am going to try again and hopefully have some better luck.

Attached a pic of where it burned up at (its right above the CPU socket on the edge of the board underneath some sort of black heatsink looking thing). On cellphone camera, little crappy.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune smittyst0ic but I have to agree with TTG, its not only hilarious but awsome. I have never ever seen a mobo burst into flames!!!

good luck next time and if your not sure post on hear and someone will help.

Well guys... been awhile here. I ended up RMAing the CPU and mb and got new ones back from newegg. Reinstalled them to the case this time successfully and it has been running great for since (6 months now).

Putting stand offs wrong into case = THE MB SIZZLE
