CPU speed? Confused :S

for my own knowledge i would like to know a bit about cpu's

if i game requires a 2.7ghz prcoessor and i had a 2.3ghz dual core would this mean that it isnt powerful enough to work

or would the fact that its a dual core make up for the fact that it is a bit slower and enable it to play games requireing closer to 4.6ghz ( i hope this makes sense)

see im confused as most games require a close to 3 ghz processor but does this mean single or dual or what??

Usually its will list the requires by the processors model. Like it will list Pentium/Core 2/Athlon/Phenom.

What processor do you have and what game?

Usually, older games listed like that would refer to pentium 4 chips, since they were the most popular. They were single core, and not very efficient. A 2GHz single core modern processor is usually equal to or better than a 3GHz Pentium 4, so a 2.3GHz CPU of just about any type would have no trouble at all with that game.

However, if the game is too old (pre-2006 ish), it may not support more than one core. You'd still probably be fine, though.

Of course, I agree with Stranglehold...the only way to know for sure is to find out what your system's specs are, and what game you're trying to play.

clockspeed is kinda frivilious right now, as clock per clock, chips process differing amounts of work per cycle. so a dual core 2.3 ghz system when its asking for something, will likely be fine, just you need to know what chip you are talking about, like back when pentium 4 was new, the athlon 64 chips were a bit quicker per clock. nowadays its the other way around, amd is falling behind intel...so it just matters what chips you are talking about.

As stated, different CPU's can be stronger at the same clockspeed. It's all about CPU architecture, the newer the better obviously.

For example, a Q6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz will still be weaker than an I5 760 at 2.8ghz. They are both quad cores, but advancement in technology makes the I5 faster clock for clock.

As for your specific case, any newer game (atleast 09' and newer) is going to pretty much require a 3ghz or higher dual core.

As to your specific case, just tell us what game it is and maybe we can help more. Also, how much ram do you have?

sorry.about.fullstops.space.bar.is.broke

You can copy a space, so "CTRL + V" can become your space bar. :good:

I didn't use the space bar for this whole sentence!

edit: Alt+0160 apparently makes stars here instead of spaces...instructions fixed.
