CPU support for my board.

Alright, it is me again. I know I found the cpu support for my m2n-mx se plus, but I found conflicts in the cpu support. I will post links to the cpu support, my board, and the processor I am thinking of getting below.

Ok, here is where it starts, I have an m2n-mx se plus, I found the cpu support at the asus website. Right away I see a problem, it says I can run up to a 9850+ x4, problem is that is a 125W cpu and my motherboard has a 95W slot. So I worked my way down until I found a quad that ran at 95W, I found the 9650+ x4. Now I think I see another problem. The asus website says the transfer rate (mt/s) for my motherboard is 2000/1600 mt/s, the mt/s for the 9650+ x4 is 3600 mt/s. So they aren't compatible correct? If not, asus needs to get their stuff straight because wouldn't that have cooked my board? I am sorry to keep coming back asking questions, but they were clearly wrong about the wattage so I am thinking they could be wrong about more. Links are below.

95 wattt slot??? You have an am2+ slot. The wattage has nothing to do with it. If their website says it supports a certain processor then it does, but make sure you have the right version of bios installed.

I know how to upgrade/downgrade the bios, that is not an issue. But if wattage doesn't matter then why at the very bottom of the page of my motherboard specs does it say, "This motherboard supports up to 95W amd cpu's."? I thought the same thing you are thinking at first, but it is right there on the asus website for my board.

The boards socket has nothing to do with how high of wattage processor it can run. That board just has a old 3 phase power setup so it cant supply enough wattage without overheating. As far as the HT speed it will just run the Phenom on a 1000/2000 HT instead of 1800/3600. The (9650) isnt going to get any performance hit or none to be noticed runing on the lower HT bandwith.

You know, I think I am getting the 6000+ x2, it is cheaper and from what I have been reading from many testimonies, is faster than quad cores.

Yes fry your board...though id wager it would melt it.


Though if your board supports id look @ the 7750 X2 its faster at stock then the 6000+ and if you overclock to 3.0ghz it will be a superior upgrade for the cash.

lol, I thought so.
It is not in the cpu support, it is also a faster mt/s. I got the 3.10ghz 6000+
x2. It is a good deal faster and has a larger cache than my 4200+ x2, I think it will do just fine for me. I also got some better thermal paste while I was at it. When I get it by mail and install it I will tell you guys how it does.
I talked to asus by the way, the guy was really cool. He explained that the quads would work for my motherboard but I would not get my moneys worth because my motherboard does not support the cache L3. He also explained that the probable reason my current cpu is overheating is the smaller cache. So thats that then, like I said I will get back with you guys, thanks for the info.
