whats the best tool for measuring the cpu temps aswell as my mobo etc. and I would like something that has a side display such as the clock on windows you know on the toolbar thing thanx

With SpeedFan maximized to full view you can still see the cpu temp reading on the taskbar which is what grimxx is looking for. And it doesn't take up much hard drive space when going to download the 1.49mb file. SiSoftware's Sandra Lite is over 200mb in size. Plus you can use that to adjust fan speeds along with a few other things for the small utility.

One thing to note is that you will have to look closely in the upper right corner of the screen capture here to the cpu temp display due to the 1280x1024 resolution.

Some on some rare occasions have seen a few glitches with the AMD X2 model cpus. But it's been as reliable here as the Asus temp probe that came with the board. Sandra Lite and others like Everest were seeing false readings at times. Everest more so when that was out. SpeedFan is small and accurate along with providing a constant reading while hidden.

Another small program that will give you some temp readings for board and hard drives along with a complete breakdown of all system information is SIW found at http://www.gtopala.com/ It won't create any registy values or folders. You simply right on it to create a desktop shortcut for easy access.

What are you talking about Sandra Lite is about 13mbs!

One of those maybe Everest or another took forever to download and considerably large in size. SpeedFan is small, goes on fast, and is accurate in most cases as the onboard hardware monitor. Yet like any other software I wouldn't advise going strictly by readings there. You can see false readings either way if the program has a glitch or doesn't read the sensors correctly.
